We've been going with Segale Bros for all of our closet and cabinet needs for years now for all of our houses. They're simply the best. Best quality, best creative, best value, and best reliability.

This has been my second experience with Segale Bros. The first was perhaps ten years ago. The second was this past three months. Each time they have refaced kitchen cabinets in a rental property. Each time they have done an outstanding job at a fraction of the cost of new cabinets. I found the people easy to deal with, responsive and responsible. The organization and implementation of plans was first rate.

The company aims for customer satisfaction--there was a chip out of a pull out breadboard which was not their doing, but they worked out a way to make it right. Additionally, they accommodated my tenants' need for a delay in installation due to recovery from surgery. It all worked smoothly. I recommend this company with no hesitation.

For brevity, here's a quick review: run away. Long story long, unless you are working with a general that will insulate you from a company whose left and right hands do not communicate, good luck. There really is nothing about the Segale product that can't be found elsewhere, at significantly lower cost. Or you might go with other custom shops for the same money.

The company failed to meet deadlines IT SET FOR ITSELF in every facet of the project, from drafting, to estimates that reflect the actual scope of work, to drawings, to install. the latter of which was to be completed 4/24-29. It's May 18, and finishing work is still being done at our house. Yep, that's 24 days to complete the 4-day install.

If remodel phases are contingent upon one another, prepare to have your heart broken when working with Segale. Basic design asks were botched, and though much of the finishing work (toe kicks and skins) could have been done while waiting for the contruction of cabinetry which wasn't done right the first time, representatives of the company couldn't take the time to answer my messages, let alone come out to do the work. Oh, I did get a "final" invoice by email on the 26th of April.

By the time my concerns were addressed by one of the company's owners, I had already expressed the basic fact that I didn't want more people (who were unfamiliar with the job) to talk to; I just wanted the job done. Just a heads up: should you have to talk to Don Segale, be prepared to hear the word "Okay" a lot. And if you speak in person, don't be put off by the blank stares, interrupted periodically by blinking that will make you wish you had actually gone to the zoo to see a real live iguana instead of this breathing cardboard cutout.

He will have no remedy for you other than to say "Every job is unique" because apparently there's a lot they still haven't seen after 37 years in business. We went with Segale because we naively believed it had the expertise to execute a plan, foresee complications, and mitigate these before they become time and budget concerns. We would've expected these frustrations from Home Depot or Ikea. Simply, our project did not receive the company's full attention.

I regret not heeding a major red flag early on when dealing with customer service rep, Michael, who apparently is so good at his job, he can not only tell you the materials you might want, but how to feel about your choices. Here's how I feel about dealing with Michael: please stick a fork in my neck. Please, something to take my mind off the crap coming from this person's mouth.

He visited the job site twice and still botched initial drafts. But this was fixable. He handed the project off to a draftsman, also named Michael, who by all accounts is a very nice person. He also visited the jobsite twice, but unfortunately, he did not actually do our drawings. Apparently, this, along with a new design program (always great to be the guinea pig) contributed to delays in getting drawings done on time.

The last of the elevations was done on the fly and had numerous errors. This, too, was fixable. Not 20 extra days, fixable, but. As install approached, the start day was pushed back, followed by a number of incorrectly executed pieces, followed by a few "just wait until the job is done before we get to that"s, followed by an inexplicable delay in executing what seemed like pretty simple touches. What's left: warped plywood upon which counters are to be installed, a couple dozen paint and drywall touch ups, smeared panes of frosted glass which aren't coming clean, chipped finishes, upper cabinets not level/flush (we actually have two sets of uppers with as much as an inch and a half variance in the top-line relative to ceiling--Don attributed that to bowing in the ceiling. They're not bowed an inch and a half, bro.). you think they might've dragged a vacuum around the cabinets and drawers to clean the shavings from drilling in tabs and pulls. Yeah, no. Ultimately, we have heavy paper coatings glued onto particle board and laminate.

This passes as custom craftsmanship. Apparently, I am supposed to ooh and ahh over a Lazy Susan in a kitchen corner. And North Korea was able to successfully deploy a test missile in the time it took Segale to build a bookshelf. The coup de grace was the final walk-through done by Don and Michael which prompted this review. If a marketing, sales, or customer service firm wants to film a "how not to" segment on addressing client concerns, Don and Michael are your leading men.

No script adjustment needed. Don acknowledged problems but offered NOTHING in the way of a make-good. Michael spent his time telling me our kitchen would win awards from numerous design associations. He even knows the acronyms. Save it for the Opus One tasting room, douchebag. And if you are going to talk crap about your client, don't do it in their house within their earshot. This type of problem isn't fixable.

What a great experience. From showroom, through installation these guys are the tops. We had custom cabinets made for our living room and master bedroom, and also a custom fireplace mantle. When on site our designer noticed the ornate trim detail of the window casing. He sketched it onto his notes and it was incorporated into the final design. On install day we had a power outage. The installers did all the trim detail finishing, including several compound miter cuts by hand. You don't find this level of craftsmanship very often anymore!

The "crew" at Segale finished my pantry cabinets and they are simply spectacular! I wish I had done this sooner! All of the craftsmanship and installation was done extremely well and, most importantly, the design has certainly facilitated my organization. I really thank you guys ~ you are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!;

After doing some research on yelp, and getting quotes from several companies, I decided to go with Segale Bros to design and build a built-in book shelf/media cabinet unit in our family room. I couldn't be happier with the results. The unit is extremely well-made and EXACTLY what I envisioned when I started the project. I would highly recommend Segale Bros to anyone trying to upgrade a living space with built in cabinets.

One thing I must mention - the unit was pre-painted at the Segale Bros shop and then delivered and installed at my house. The color was based on a sample that I provided, and the sample I provided turned out being not quite the right color of white. So when the unit was installed it just didn't quite blend with the surrounding trim. Rich and the team at Segale Bros put my happiness of the project above all else and brought their painting equipment (conversion varnish) and crew to my house and redid the entire paint job (3 days of work) at no cost to me. These guys really went above and beyond and I'm grateful for it.

Edit (5/12/13): Just got a check from Segale Bros. for the difference from the original estimate which didn't include a discount they had offered later. How many contractors do you know that would offer a refund if you overpaid? I'd give them another star, but I already gave 5. Overall I'm very satisfied with the work that they did.

The kitchen cabinets that we had refaced look very good. Along the way, there were a few minor hiccups, but the issues I had were addressed and remedied to my satisfaction. I guess that's about the best you can expect when dealing with contractors. There were quite a few different workers brought in during the project, some better than others.

So check the work and speak up if you're not satisfied, and they will make it right. Again, overall I'm satisfied with the work, not the cheapest (by a long way), but well worth it.

Beautiful cabinets and great prices. But their installation does not measure up to the quality of the cabinets. We had several serious problems with the installation : cutting through water pipes, putting cabinet doors in the wrong sequential order, not making even alignment etc. We were lucky that our contractor was able to babysit them. I'd recommend them, but make sure you have a knowledgable contractor with cabinetry experience on hand when the installers show up! It'll still cost you way less than other custom cabinets.

I have worked with Segale Brothers twice for new kitchen cabinets and both times, the work was superb. I have done quite a bit of remodeling and would gladly refer them with my wholehearted recommendation. I look forward to working with them again. I have visited their showroom and shop; it is clean, well-presented and very impressive.

Thank you Segale Brothers! I absolutely LOVE my kitchen! From my initial consultation with David, to the very quick, and seamless installation by Jay, and the prompt follow-ups by Steve, the entire experience was as painless as a project of this nature could ever be. The entire team was extremely pleasant and professional, the work site was always cleaned up at the end of the day, and my kitchen was finished exactly when they said it would be. Two months later, and I'm still amazed at the results!

I am the perfect customer to write a review for this company, since I have cabinets in a garage and one walk-in closet done by California Closets and a second walk-in closet done by Segale Brothers. All three installs were done within just a few months of each other - about 6 years ago - (2005) and almost identical in style and materials. The garage and first closet (California Closets job) are now starting to split at the corners and fall off of the walls.

The drawers do not slide properly and the locks on the drawers are corroded and the keys won't fit anymore. The second closet, done by Segale, looks just like it was installed today. The seams are tight and everything looks firm and straight. There is no comparison! The quality of the Segale product is so far superior that it's a shame that anyone would go elsewhere.

I called Segale and they are actually going to come and change out the split drawer fronts in the California Closets job for me (No, I am not going back to California Closets to have them re-do their bad job!) The garage cabinets are beyond repair, but once they literally fall off the walls, I will have then re-done by Segale. Lesson learned. Hope this helps others.

I'm currently on my 2nd Segale project. The 1st was a kitchen, fam room, laundry, bath. Donald (the owner) really knows what he is doing and makes proper recommendations on wood types, stain, door styles. He is very professional and personable in his demeanor. He offered coffee and showed us around his entire Hayward shop. He has a unique antique dental collection of tools and equipment.

His son Daniel did the instal and he too was professional and personable. He has an eagle eye attention to detail. Questo negozio e il terrificante! This store is awesome! I will give an update on the 2nd project, master bath.
